443 Greenwich Street, NYC – chances are that this address in Manhattan will not mean much to you. However, this converted seven story warehouse in Tribeca is home to more A-list celebrities than any other building in New York City. A recent article by Jennifer Calfas for Money reprinted in The Real Deal focuses on the celebrity residents in this “it” building (Inside the Celeb-Filled Apartment Building Where Harry Styles and Jennifer Lawrence Live). Imagine having Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lawrence and Jake Gyllenhall as your neighbors!
Long before this 1880’s era building became a luxury condominium, it was a warehouse filled with a variety of businesses, among them a bookbinding company, a glass company and a drug manufacturer. Metro Loft Management purchased it in 2012, envisioning luxury condos and penthouses ideal for the wealthiest and most powerful people who wished to be in a most desirable neighborhood.
The units in the building range from $9 million to $58 million and consists of just 53 condos, 8 of which are penthouses. Sizes range from 3,000 to 9,000 square feet. Although each unit is different, there is some uniformity in style and finishes. The units all have white oak floors and 150 year-old Carolina yellow pine beams that are from the original building.
Although not a notable highrise such as One57, 432 Park or 15 Central Park West, 443 Greenwich does have some outstanding amenities, such as multiple in-unit wet bars and 77 bottle wine storage in-unit as well as a 75 foot lap pool and a fully-staffed lobby leading to private elevators.
The most important amenity? Privacy. Since the area was already “celebrity-rich”, the developers knew exactly what prospective buyers would desire above all else, and that was privacy. Upon entering the lobby, the first thing visitors will see are a set of large glass doors that open to a lushly landscaped private courtyard. A private underground garage with a pair of gates is designed so that anyone leaving or entering is not able to be seen from the street. This level of privacy is what sets the building apart from all the rest.
Other unique features include 18-inch thick exterior walls designed to keep outside noise at a minimum. Kitchens have Calcutta marble, high end appliances and two dishwashers. Bathrooms, covered in marble, include heated towel racks and huge walk-in showers. The bedrooms have windows facing the courtyard, which is meant to decrease noise and increase privacy.
Among the celebrities who have purchased units in this property are Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Harry Styles, Meg Ryan, Jennifer Lawrence, Jake Gyllenhall, Rebel Wilson, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
